Cutest Birds in the Americas
Eco Birding's Totally Biased Top 10
1. Tody Motmot
How can you not like a bird named 'Motmot'!? This particular Motmot is tiny and is just irresistably cute, sure to steal anyone's heart.
2. Puerto Rican Tody
The best part of Caribbean birding is seeing the Todies (currently, there are five different Tody species). Luckily for us, this cute little creature is fairly abundant and easily observed throughout the Caribbean islands.
3. Dovekie
Cuteness of this (American) football shaped sea creature is hard to describe but you've got to see it to believe it. Watching this little individual somewhat awkwardly float on the water is sure to melt your heart.
4. Peruvian Antpitta
We all agree that Antpittas are holy grails of South American birding. We just cannot resist their ludicrously long legs, irresistably cute faces and goofy hops. Well, this tiny Antpitta got them all plus some.
5. Red Capped Manakin
We cannot talk about birding in Central/South America without mentioning the Manakins. They all fashion specutacular plumage and got dance moves like no other. This one's red and black getup wins the cutest contest and our hearts.
6. Amazonian Pygmy-Owl
As the name suggests, Pygmy-Owls are sparrow-sized tiny owls distributed throughout the Americas. Looking straight into their larger-than-life eyes would certainly make your knees weak.
7. White-whiskered Puffbird
However strange it sounds, what makes Puffbirds so adorable is their absurdly disproportional large head. Seeing them quitely and motionlessly sit on a branch with no care in the world always brings a big smile.
8. Black-throated Tody-tyrant
When talking about cuteness, we cannot forget Tody-Tyrants. Their miniture statue and no-care-in-the-world attitude keep us hooked to this tiny super cute creature.
9. Piping Plover
The crown jewel of North American birding got to be the Piping Plovers. All Plovers are cute but the cuteness of this particular Plover is beyond one's imagination: Real eye candy at the North American shoreline.
10. Tufted Coquette
Not all hummingbirds are created equal. Yes, all hummers are cute but this guy certainly brings cuteness to another level with his ridiculously flashy tufts and bright orange crest packed in his tiny body.
